Wen es schon mal auf einem der verschwitzt-hitzigen Shows von Amyl And The Sniffers durch den Moshpit getrieben hat, hat eine Vorstellung davon, wieviel Energie sich bei der australischen Band um den Derwisch Amy Taylor in einem Corona-Jahr ohne Konzerte aufgestaut hat. Diese geballte Ladung Rock"n Rock entlädt sich nun auf ihrem neuen Album "Comfort to Me" Ende 2020 zog es Amyl And The Sniffers mit dem Produzenten Dan Luscombe ins Studio, wo sie das zuvor über ein Jahr zuhause entwickelte Album aufnahmen. Die Einflüsse sind dabei weitreichend: angefangen von Old-School Rock"n"Roll (AC/DC, Rose Tattoo, Motörhead und Wendy O Williams), über modernen Hardcore (Warthog und Power Trip) bis hin zu den lokalen Helden (Coloured Balls und Cosmic Psychos). Für die Lyrics ließ sich Frontfrau Taylor hingegen von ihren Rap Idolen und unzähligen Garage Bands inspirieren. Aus 17 aufgenommenen Songs, fanden letztlich 13 ihren Weg auf das Album, das von Nick Launay (Nick Cave, IDLES, Yeah Yeah Yeahs) gemixt und von Bernie Grund man (Michael Jackson, Prince, Dr. Der) gemastert wurde. Amy Taylor sagt über das Album: "If you have to explain what this record is like, I reckon it"s like watching an episode of The Nanny but the setting is an Australian car show and the Nanny cares about social issues and she"s read a couple of books, and Mr Sheffield is drinking beer in the sun. It"s a Mitsubishi Lancer going slightly over the speed limit in a school zone. It"s realising how good it is to wear track pants in bed. "Amyl and the Sniffers" sind die langersehnte, unbekümmert-energiegeladene Wiederbelebungsmaßnahme, die dem Punk noch einmal neuen Atem eingehaucht hat. In allerbester trotzig-rotziger Punk-Manier wirft das australische Quartett um Frontfrau Amyl Taylor "Amyl and the Sniffers" AC/DC, Cosmic Psychos, Dolly Parton und Die Antwoord in einen Topf und rühren einmal kräftig um. Als Resultat spucken sie das nach sich selbst benannte Album "Amyl and the Sniffers" aus, um den Punk und uns noch einmal ordentlich wach zu rütteln. Dass man dabei bloß nicht zu perfektionistisch zu Werke gehen darf, bewies die Band schon mit ihrem Debüt-Album, das von der Bandfindung (die schnell von statten ging, Dreiviertel der Gruppe bewohnten gemeinsam eine WG) über das Schreiben der Songs und deren Aufnahme bis hin zur Veröffentlichung nur 12 Stunden brauchte. Inzwischen sind sie die Melbourner die Speerspitze einer neuen Garagenrock- und Punk-Szene und eine Band, die, ausgestattet mit reichlich Energie, rockendem Spirit und Vokuhila, einen Pub Punk vorlegt, der sich selber nicht zu ernst nimmt, mitreißt und noch einige Überraschungen für uns bereithalten wird.
